Hennessey Venom GT – World’s fastest convertible
Many attempts have been made over the years to break the world’s fastest car record. Numerous manufacturers have attempted it, yet only a select few were successful. Currently the official title of the world’s fastest production car belongs to the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, which travelled at 257.87 mph (408 km/h) in 2010. Today a new record emerged, and fans of speed are extremely excited. We are of course talking about the world’s fastest convertible, a title that now belongs to the Hennessey Venom GT.
The vehicle made headlines back in 2014 after it attempted to become the world’s fastest production vehicle. Although it managed to exceed 270.49 mph (435.31 km/h), it did not qualify for the title as it didn’t meet the criteria.
In order to qualify a vehicle must be a production car, at least 25 examples must exist and it has to be street-legal.
Unfortunately, the Venom GT failed to meet the criteria, because only 16 examples were built.
To celebrate its 25th anniversary, the brand decided to have another go and in March 2016, it attempted once again to break a record. This time, it went for the fastest open top production vehicle record and it was successful.
It’s not every day that a speed record is broken, so this is very exciting news for fans of speed.
Hopefully, Hennessey will be able to break the world’s fastest production vehicle record in the future, a title that it unofficially holds.
Other vehicles to have held the title in the past include McLaren F1, Ruf CTR, Porsche 59 and Aston Martin DB4 as well as a number of other cars.
Speed will forever play an important role in the motor industry and we’re very much looking forward to seeing what different manufacturers will bring to the table in the future.
