When it comes to luxurious sports cars, Lotus remains a favourite among enthusiasts everywhere. Founded in 1952, the company revolutionised the way we see sports cars and by always taking things that one step further, it earned its place among the top sports car manufactures today.  Lotus Exige was first introduces in 2000 however it still remains in production today.

Series 1 Exige was launched in two 2000 and remained in production until 2002. Overall 604 units were built during its 2 year run. It was capable of reaching a top speed of 219 km/h (136 mph).

It wasn’t until 2004 that Series 2 was introduced. It featured a number of minor aesthetic changes as well as a number of major ones. The vehicle’s performance has improved also as it included a 1.8 L 16-valve DOHC Toyota/Yamaha engine that produced 190 bhp (142 kW; 193 PS).

Exige remained in production until 2006 when Exige S was introduced. It featured an improved engine in the form of a supercharged Toyota engine. It is not clear how many units of the Exige S were produced during its short run of 1 year.

Exige S 240 replaced Exige S in 2008, followed by Exige S 290 in 2009. S240 had an increased power output of 9% whilst the S 290 produced an additional 7% power output over S 240. Review of Lotus Exige S on TopGear.

Between 2007 and 2011 a number of special edition and one-off Exige’s were built.

In 2012, Series 3 was introduced. Exige s V6 was unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Autoshow after which it went on sale the following year. It was the most powerful Exige yet as it included a supercharged 3.5 litre V6 engine. It was capable of reaching top speeds of up to 270 km/h (168 mph).

Exige 360 Cup was unveiled in 2015. Limited to 50 editions, the vehicle is powered by a 3.5-liter supercharged Toyota V-6 engine.

Overall, Lotus Exige experienced great success throughout its run, with its latest model going on sale in 2015. We can’t wait to see what else Lotus has in stores for us and even though we can’t know for sure what the future will bring, we are sure it’s going to be spectacular.
